Start-Up and Community Development

Our Start-Up Support and Community Development Officer works directly with aspiring entrepreneurs and existing business owners across Southeast Kansas to help turn their ideas into sustainable, thriving ventures. Whether someone is launching a brand-new business or expanding an established one, we connect them with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to succeed. Our services include:

  • Assistance with licensing and regulatory compliance
  • Business plan development and investor-ready pitch materials
  • Cash flow projections and cost analysis
  • And much more!

Mentorship Program

One of our cornerstone initiatives is our Mentorship Program, which currently operates across three Southeast Kansas counties with a network seasoned mentors. To date, we’ve supported over 30 mentees in nine counties, matching new business owners with experienced entrepreneurs in their field. These mentor-mentee relationships help navigate the inevitable roadblocks and technical challenges every start-up faces.

We pay mentors $50/hour, up to 3 hours per month, to ensure that guidance is not only accessible but also consistent. These monthly check-ins have proven vital for helping young entrepreneurs stay on track and grow with confidence.

We’re proud of the regional footprint we’ve already built and are actively working to expand our impact throughout Southeast Kansas and beyond. Our team has supported both start-ups and growth-stage businesses, helping bring visions to life and strengthen local economies.
